Newsletter: Gala keynote, Campbell op-ed, and more

Welcome to the weekly newsletter of the Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council (Michigan EIBC), the business voice for advanced energy in Michigan. Here’s what’s new this week:

Announcing our 2025 Annual Gala Keynote Speaker

We’re honored to welcome former U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow as the keynote speaker for our 13th Annual Michigan Energy Innovators Gala. “Made in Michigan” through and through, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow has blazed trails, transformed public policy and made history as the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from the State of Michigan. She is widely respected for her unrivaled work ethic, ability to build bipartisan coalitions to get things done and commitment to public service.

Read Justin Carpenter in Crain’s Grand Rapids

In a new op-ed in Crain’s Grand Rapids, Michigan EIBC Policy Director Justin Carpenter argues that there was no cost or reliability reason for halting the retirement of the J.H. Campbell coal plant in Ottawa County.

“With no affordability, reliability, or economic reason to keep Campbell alive, the unfortunate conclusion we must come to is an ideological one,” Carpenter writes. “Keeping Campbell open is simply playing politics and in the end, Michiganders will be left with the bill.”
