Welcome to the weekly newsletter of the Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council (Michigan EIBC), the business voice for advanced energy in Michigan. Here’s what’s new this week:
EIBC at the MI Healthy Climate Transportation Conference

Michigan EIBC’s Policy Principal Sophia Schuster joined other industry and policy leaders at the MI Healthy Climate Transportation Conference hosted by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). The MI Healthy Climate conferences are a continuing series following up on Michigan’s 2022 MI Health Climate Plan and its implementation. Michigan EIBC President Laura Sherman previously spoke at the series’s “Clean the Grid” conference in May.
Schuster joined the panel “Electrify Vehicles and Increase Public Transit” to discuss the importance of continued charging infrastructure deployment and stakeholder education efforts. A friendly policy environment, she argued, will attract investments, foster Michigan’s workforce, and help electrify the transportation sector with more EVs on the road.
MPSC Approves ERAS Process
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) approved a temporary state-level process to fast track the review of new electric generation projects, as part of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator’s (MISO) Expedited Resource Addition Study (ERAS) tariff to meet the region’s reliability needs. MPSC has already approved five energy storage and renewable energy projects as eligible for the ERAS process.
Michigan EIBC and Advanced Energy United submitted joint comments to the Commission on its process. Our recommendations influenced the final process in several ways, including improving the ability to track applications and clarifying how the MPSC will verify that a project will support resource adequacy.
