- Attorney General Nessel and public interest groups criticized the public hearing on DTE’s contract with a planned data center in Saline, arguing that the MPSC should designate the issue as a contested case with formal hearings and evidence. (MI Public)
- At least 10 Michigan communities have been approached by data centers, arousing concerns of environmental impacts and electricity rate hikes. (Bridge)
- Attorney General Dana Nessel is challenging the Trump administration’s third order to keep the J.H. Campbell coal plant open. (MLive)
- Michigan EIBC member NextEra Energy announced plans to build a 500-megawatt battery storage project near Ludington. (Crain’s)
National Energy News
- The country’s biggest grid operator PJM’s stakeholders failed to agree on a plan to add data centers in its jurisdiction. (Utility Dive)
- The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee advanced bills weakening energy efficiency programs, building codes, home rebate programs, and job training programs for contractors. (Utility Dive)
- The House Natural Resources Committee passed the SPEED Act on a bipartisan vote to streamline permitting. It includes language prohibiting federal agencies from revoking, suspending, altering, or interfering with any already-approved permits of energy projects — a Democratic priority to protect offshore wind from the Trump administration’s attacks. - A Department of Energy reorganization is breaking up or rebranding offices that support the development of clean energy technologies. (NYT)

- Dec. 3: MPSC Public Hearing on DTE contract with Saline Township data center — The Michigan Public Service Commission will hold a virtual public hearing on DTE’s application for approval of contracts with a 1.4 GW data center in Saline Township. The meeting will be held on Microsoft Teams from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Learn more

The State of Michigan’s Michigan Infrastructure Office Technical Assistance Center has launched a website with information about how tax-exempt entities can take advantage of federal clean energy tax credits using elective pay.The Michigan Public Service Commission has created a websitetracking its progress implementing Public Acts 229, 231, 233, 234, and 235, passed on Nov. 8, 2023 and signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Nov. 28.
Rheaply, NextCycle Michigan and Michigan EGLE have launched the Michigan Materials Marketplace, which allows businesses to buy and sell excess materials so they can be reused instead of discarded.
