Welcome to the weekly newsletter of the Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council (Michigan EIBC), the business voice for advanced energy in Michigan. Here’s what’s new this week:
Read Laura Sherman in The Detroit News

In a new op-ed in The Detroit News, Michigan EIBC President Laura Sherman urges Michigan state lawmakers not to turn away from clean energy policies following the passage of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. Legislators should instead focus on mitigating the higher energy costs the new federal law is likely to bring. Sherman argues state policies that encourage the adoption of EVs, rooftop solar, and home energy efficiency upgrades can deliver direct savings to Michiganders.
“With the federal government stepping back, the state must step up so that Michiganders can continue to reap the benefits of clean, affordable energy,” Sherman writes.
Michigan Utilities Not Wavering on EV Programs
DTE Energy and Consumers Energy, in their recent filings with the Michigan Public Service Commission, have not altered their EV adoption forecasts despite changes in federal tax and trade policies. While there may be a slowdown in EV adoption in the short term, the utilities believe state policies, global market trends, and auto industry investments will enable continued growth of EV adoption — and utilities want to be prepared. With these forecasts, the utilities are proposing to keep their EV programs unchanged, allowing residential and commercial customers to receive rebates for EV charging that will ultimately pass along savings to all ratepayers.
Michigan EIBC, the Institute for Energy Innovation, and Advanced Energy United are intervening in both rate cases and will file testimony from expert witnesses on these issues and others in the coming months.
