Newsletter: MPSC renewables report, Auto Show opportunities, and more

Welcome to the weekly newsletter of the Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council (Michigan EIBC), the business voice for advanced energy in Michigan. Here’s what’s new this week:

MPSC Expects Renewables to Double by 2030

The Michigan Public Service Commission released a new report last week finding continued growth in renewable energy and distributed energy programs. The Commission expects 8,300 MW of renewable capacity by the end of this year, and expects that figure to more than double to 17,800 MW by 2030. According to the report, a substantial contributor to the growth of renewables is the demand for voluntary green pricing programs.

Michigan EIBC President Laura Sherman told Michigan Public that she expects both DTE Energy and Consumers Energy will meet the state’s climate goals of 50% renewable electricity by 2030 and 60% by 2035.

2024 Clean Energy Jobs Report Released

The ninth annual Clean Jobs Midwest report shows continued job growth in the clean energy sector, outpacing economywide job growth in the Midwest. In 2024, clean energy added more than 13,000 jobs across 12 Midwest states, with energy efficiency jobs leading the industry. In Michigan, clean energy and clean vehicle companies employed 127,771 people, setting a new state record.
