Newsletter: New op-ed and the RE+ Midwest Conference

Welcome to the weekly newsletter of the Michigan Energy Innovation Business Council (Michigan EIBC), the business voice for advanced energy in Michigan. Here’s what’s new this week:

Read Laura Sherman in Michigan Advance

In a new op-ed in Michigan Advance, Laura Sherman, president of Michigan EIBC, argues that programs like Solar for All are necessary to ensure the benefits of clean energy reach people of all income levels. The federal government rescinded funding for Solar for All in August, pulling the rug out from under communities and small businesses counting on the program. At the time of the rescission, Michigan had already received $156 million in funding and announced pilot programs to deliver solar energy and bill savings to low-income, rural, and disadvantaged communities.

“As electricity bills continue to rise, no one disputes that we need more energy generation to keep up with demand and maintain affordability. But the way we achieve that goal matters,” Sherman writes. “Halting programs that make energy cleaner and more affordable for working families is the wrong approach.”

Michigan EIBC Speaks at RE+ Midwest

Michigan EIBC Policy Director Justin Carpenter gave a talk and spoke on a panel  during the RE+ Midwest conference this week. Carpenter discussed how states are advancing renewable energy goals in the face of the One Big Beautiful Bill and provided an overview of the clean energy landscape in Michigan.
