The Michigan Public Service Commission released a new report last week finding continued growth in renewable energy and distributed energy programs. The Commission expects 8,300 MW of renewable capacity by the end of this year, and expects that figure to more than double to 17,800 MW by 2030.

Landowners in rural Michigan want the right to host energy projects, a new report by Evergreen Action and Private Property Rights Institute finds. According to the report, which includes case studies of farmers and local officials, energy leasing can oftentimes keep family farms alive but restrictive zoning laws stemming from misinformation about renewable energy projects makes it difficult.

The Michigan government is staying open this week even after legislators failed to pass a FY 2026 budget by Tuesday night. Governor Whitmer signed a stopgap measure to keep state government offices running as normal for one week as she and legislative leaders iron out the details of a budget deal reached last week that has not yet been released.
